The wind is strong on the Yorkshire moors. There are few trees, and fewer houses, to block its path. There is one house, however, that does not hide from the wind. It stands out from the hill and challenges the wind to do its worst. The house is called Wuthering Heights.
When Mr Earnshaw brings a strange, small, dark child back home to Wuthering Heights, it seems he has opened his doors to trouble. He has invited in something that, like the wind, is safer kept out of the house.

Emily Jane Brontë Thornton, Yorkshire, Inglaterra; 30 de julio de 1818-Haworth, Inglaterra; 19 de diciembre de 1848 fue una escritora británica. Su obra más importante es la novela Cumbres borrascosas 1847 , considerada un clásico de la literatura inglesa, que fue publicada bajo el seudónimo masculino de Ellis Bell para sortear así las dificultades que tenían las mujeres del siglo XIX en el reconocimiento de su trabajo literario. La novela, considerada inicialmente como salvaje y burda por los críticos, fue reconocida con el tiempo como la expresión más genuina, profunda y contenida del alma romántica inglesa y una de las obras más importantes de la época victoriana.
