In 1970 he received the international Hans Christian Andersen Medal for Illustration, in 1983 he received the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award from the American Library Association, and in 1996 he received a National Medal of Arts in recognition of his contribution to the arts in America. SENDAK MAURICE Maurice Sendak nació el 10 de junio de 1928 en Brooklyn, Nueva York, hijo de inmigrantes judíos polacos. Desde joven mostró interés por el dibujo y la ilustración, lo que lo llevó a trabajar en la creación de libros infantiles. Su carrera comenzó ilustrando obras de otros autores antes de publicar sus propios textos.
