BEECHER STOWE HARRIET
Harriet Elisabeth Beecher Stowe nació en Litchfield, Connecticut, el 14 de junio de 1811 y falleció el 1 de julio de 1896. Hija de Lyman Beecher y Roxana Foote, recibió una formación religiosa que moldeó su compromiso social. En 1836 se casó con el reverendo Calvin Ellis Stowe y tuvieron siete hijos. Su gran éxito fue La cabaña del tío Tom, publicada por entregas entre 1851 y 1852 en el semanario The National Era, obra que expuso el sufrimiento esclavista y reforzó la causa abolicionista. En 1853 publicó A Key to Uncle Tom's Cabin para documentar con evidencias los hechos narrados. Escribió novelas como Dred: A Tale of the Great Dismal Swamp y se consolidó como una de las voces abolicionistas más influyentes del siglo XIX.
