Lucille Colandro nació en Sacramento, California, hija de Anthony C. y Marie R. Colandro. Estudió en la Universidad Estatal de Pensilvania, donde obtuvo su licenciatura y maestría. Trabajó como directora de adquisiciones en Scholastic Book Club en Nueva York. Es conocida por su serie de libros infantiles "There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed...", que comenzó como una propuesta humorística para los clubes de lectura escolares. Su estilo se caracteriza por el uso de rimas y situaciones absurdas que capturan la atención de los niños.
