Su principal obra crítica es Alegoría del amor. Esta obra consolidó su prestigio académico. Su trilogía Perelandra, resultó ser una fusión sin precedentes de ciencia ficción, fantasía y alegoría. Una de sus obras más populares es Cartas del diablo a su sobrino. Escribió asimismo una serie muy popular de libros infantiles titulada Crónicas de Narnia, una obra alegórica y fantástica sobre la eterna lucha del bien y el mal.
