The company of the Ring is torn asunder. Frodo and Sam continue their journey alone down the great River Anduin - alone, that is, save for the mysterious creeping figure that follows wherever they go.
This continues the classic tale begun in The Fellowship of the Ring, which reaches its awesome climax in The Return of the King.

J.R.R.Tolkien 1892-1973 was a distinguished academic, though he is best known for writing The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion, plus other stories and essays. His books have been translated into over 60 languages and have sold many millions of copies worldwide.

Nació el 3 de enero en Bloemfontein en el Estado Libre de Orange. A principios de 1895, su madre, agotada por el clima, regresó a Inglaterra con Ronald y su hermano pequeño, Hilary. Tras el fallecimiento de su padre, a causa de unas fiebres reumáticas, él y su familia se establecieron brevemente en Sarehole, cerca de Birmingham. Esta hermosa zona rural causó una honda impresión en el joven Ronald, y sus efectos pueden verse en su escritura y en algunos de sus cuadros. Por su larga y prestigiosa carrera académica, es conocido por ser el creador de El Hobbit, El Señor de los Anillos y El Silmarillion. Sus obras se han traducido a más de cuarenta idiomas en todo elmundo. Fue nombrado caballero del imperio británico y doctor honoris causa por la Universidad de Oxford en 1972. Murió el 2 de septiembre de 1973 a los ochenta y un años.
