Hugh Lofting 1886-1947 . Fue un ingeniero y escritor británico, célebre por crear la serie del Doctor Dolittle. Nacido en Inglaterra, trabajó en distintos países antes de emigrar a Estados Unidos. Durante la Primera Guerra Mundial comenzó a escribir e ilustrar cartas para sus hijos, sustituyendo las duras noticias del conflicto por relatos protagonizados por animales. De esas historias nació el personaje del doctor capaz de hablar con ellos.
