Samantha Shannon nació el 8 de noviembre de 1991 en Hammersmith, Londres, y creció en Ruislip. Comenzó a escribir a los quince años, cuando creó su primera novela inédita titulada Aurora. Estudió Literatura y Lengua Inglesas en St Anne's College, Oxford, graduándose en 2013.
