Ha escrito más de ochenta libros durante los últimos veinte años. Es especialista en historia natural, tecnología y ciencia. Vive en Bristol, Inglaterra, con su esposa y sus tres hijos. Estudió Zoología en la Universidad de Bristol y ha trabajado en los zoológicos de Jersey y Surrey.
