Francis Scott Fitzgerald nació el 24 de septiembre de 1896 en Saint Paul, Minnesota, y murió el 21 de diciembre de 1940 en Hollywood, California. Estudió en la Universidad de Princeton, aunque no concluyó sus estudios, y se dedicó a la escritura. Publicó su primera novela A este lado del paraíso en 1920, que le dio reconocimiento inmediato. Es autor de obras como El gran Gatsby, Suave es la noche y El último magnate, además de numerosos cuentos. Su producción literaria refleja la vida de la llamada Generación Perdida y el ambiente de los años veinte en Estados Unidos.
