J.D. Barker nació el 7 de enero de 1971 en Lombard, Illinois, Estados Unidos, y es un escritor reconocido por sus thrillers de suspenso que integran elementos de horror, misterio, crimen y ciencia ficción. Pasó su infancia en Crystal Lake y más tarde se trasladó a Florida, donde estudió en Lemon Bay High School y posteriormente en el Instituto de Arte de Fort Lauderdale, obteniendo un grado en Empresa. Su primera novela, Forsaken, publicada en 2014, fue finalista del Premio Bram Stoker y le abrió las puertas al género. Ha colaborado con figuras como Stephen King, quien le permitió usar un personaje suyo en Forsaken. Barker también trabajó como periodista entrevistando celebridades y ha citado como influencias a autores como King, Koontz, Saul y Gaiman. Actualmente continúa publicando novelas de gran éxito internacional.
