Belfast, Irlanda, 1898 - Oxford, 1963 . Estudió en escuelas privadas y completó su formación en la Universidad de Oxford. Dio clases de literatura medieval inglesa en la Universidad de Cambridge. Su principal obra crítica es Alegoría del amor. Esta obra consolidó su prestigio académico. Su trilogía Perelandra, resultó ser una fusión sin precedentes de ciencia ficción, fantasía y alegoría. Una de sus obras más populares es Cartas del diablo a su sobrino. Escribió asimismo la serie muy popular de libros infantiles titulada Crónicas de Narnia, una obra alegórica y fantástica sobre la eterna lucha del bien y el mal.
