Katya Balen nació en Londres en 1989. Estudió Filología Inglesa y realizó un máster centrado en el impacto de la literatura en el comportamiento de niños autistas. Es codirectora de Mainspring Arts, una organización sin ánimo de lucro que promueve la creatividad en personas neurodivergentes. Su obra se caracteriza por una sensibilidad especial hacia temas como la familia, la naturaleza y la neurodiversidad. Su novela Octubre, Octubre fue galardonada con la Medalla Yoto Carnegie en 2022 y considerada un clásico moderno por la crítica. También ha ganado el Premio Wainwright de novela juvenil con La hora del zorro. Vive en Londres con su compañero y sus dos perros, Raffi y Mouse, y disfruta horneando pan y cuidando sus plantas.
