Haruki Murakami was born in Kyoto in 1949 and now lives near Tokyo. His work has been translated into more than fifty languages, and the most recent of his many international honors is the Jerusalem Prize, whose previous recipients include J. M. Coetzee, Milan Kundera, and V. S. Naipaul.

Kioto, 1949. El más popular y prestigioso autor japonés vivo, ganador de numerosos premios literarios dentro y fuera de su país. Nieto de un monje budista e hijo de profesores de literatura japonesa, estudió en la Universidad de Waseda, pero se formó, sobre todo, escuchando jazz, viendo películas de Hollywood y leyendo a autores como Richard Brautigan, Jack Kerouac o Kurt Vonnegut.
