Tahereh Mafi es una escritora iraní-estadounidense nacida en Connecticut en 1988. Es conocida por sus novelas juveniles, especialmente la saga Destrózame, que comenzó en 2011 y la catapultó al éxito internacional. Estudió en la Universidad Soka de América y vivió un semestre en Barcelona, lo que le permitió desarrollar habilidades en varios idiomas. Su estilo se caracteriza por una prosa intensa y emocional. Actualmente vive en California y está casada con el también escritor Ransom Riggs.
