Michael Crichton nació en Chicago el 23 de octubre de 1942 y falleció en Los Ángeles el 4 de noviembre de 2008. Se trasladó de niño a Roslyn, Nueva York, y estudió antropología en Harvard, donde se graduó en 1965, además de obtener el título de médico en la Escuela de Medicina de Harvard. Fue conferenciante en la Universidad de Cambridge y comenzó a escribir bajo seudónimos antes de publicar novelas de ciencia ficción y tecno-thriller como La amenaza de Andrómeda y Parque Jurásico. También trabajó como guionista y director, y creó la serie televisiva Urgencias en 1994.
