NUEVA VISION - GRAPHIC DESIGN FOR THE ARTS IN ARGENTINA 1940-1976
NUEVA VISION, visualises Argentina's dynamic graphic culture during a period of transformation in the arts.
NUEVA VISION presents a comprehensive study of Argentina's dynamic visual culture during a period of transformation in the arts. Through meticulous documentation and high-quality reproductions, authors Jelle Jespers, Andrea Gergich, and Rubén Fontana explore how graphic design shaped cultural institutions, printed matter and other ephemera, and exhibitions' communication in the visual arts. The book highlights the creativity and innovation of designers who, in a first period until the late 1940s, fused European avant-garde influences with local artistic traditions, producing visually striking, socially engaged and culturally resonant works. As from the 1950s Argentine graphic designers developed their own visual language that even inspired and stimulated cross-continent colleagues and the arts scene.
With over 200 images, including posters, exhibition catalogues and ephemeral graphics, this book offers a nuanced understanding of the intersection between design, performance and institutional identity. Featuring contextual essays by academic Andrea Gergich and designer Rubén Fontana, NUEVA VISION offers a critical examination and testimonial of mid-20th-century Argentine design within its social, political, and artistic context. It is an essential resource for anyone interested in Latin American modernism and the global history of graphic arts.
