Kurt Vonnegut nació el 11 de noviembre de 1922 en Indianápolis, Estados Unidos, y falleció el 11 de abril de 2007 en Nueva York. Estudió antropología en la Universidad de Chicago y sirvió en el ejército durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial, donde fue prisionero en Dresde, experiencia que inspiró su novela Matadero 5 publicada en 1969.
