Kevin Henkes nació el 27 de noviembre de 1960 en Racine, Wisconsin, Estados Unidos. Vive en Madison, Wisconsin, junto a su esposa, la pintora Laura Dronzek, con quien ha colaborado en varios títulos ilustrados.
