Hannah New nació el 13 de mayo de 1984 en Balham, Londres. Se licenció en filología hispánica e inglesa en la Universidad de Leeds y tras graduarse vivió cuatro años en Barcelona, lo que le permitió hablar español con fluidez. Completó un máster en interpretación en la Central School of Speech and Drama en diciembre de 2011. Inició su carrera en televisión con papeles en La Riera y El barco antes de darse a conocer internacionalmente como Rosalinda Fox en El tiempo entre costuras y Eleanor Guthrie en Black Sails. Ha participado en películas como Maléfica y continúa desarrollando su trayectoria en cine, televisión y teatro. "How to be an actor" es su primer libro.
