Louis Sachar es un escritor estadounidense nacido el 20 de marzo de 1954 en Nueva York. Es conocido por sus obras de literatura infantil y juvenil, especialmente por la novela Hoyos Holes , que ganó la Medalla Newbery y el Premio Nacional del Libro en 1999. También es autor de la divertida serie Sideways Stories from Wayside School, inspirada en su experiencia como asistente en una escuela primaria. Tras estudiar economía y derecho, dejó su carrera como abogado para dedicarse por completo a la escritura. Vive en Austin, Texas, con su familia.
