Jonathan Swift 1667-1745 fue un influyente escritor, clérigo y satírico irlandés, considerado uno de los maestros de la prosa en lengua inglesa. Ocupó el cargo de decano de la Catedral de San Patricio en Dublín y fue una figura central en la vida política y literaria de su época. Su obra más célebre, Los viajes de Gulliver 1726 , es una mordaz crítica social y política disfrazada de relato de aventuras. Bajo diversos pseudónimos, como Isaac Bickerstaff o Lemuel Gulliver, Swift utilizó el humor negro y la ironía para denunciar la hipocresía humana y la injusticia colonial, destacando también su polémico ensayo Una modesta proposición.
