David John McKee 2 January 1935 - 6 April 2022 was a British writer and illustrator, chiefly of children's books and animations. For his contribution as a children's illustrator, he was UK nominee for the biennial international Hans Christian Andersen Award in 2006.

David John McKee nació el 2 de enero de 1935 en Devon, Inglaterra, y falleció el 6 de abril de 2022 en Francia. Fue escritor e ilustrador británico especializado en literatura infantil y juvenil. Estudió arte en la Universidad de Plymouth y posteriormente en el Hornsey College of Art en Londres. Comenzó su carrera dibujando tiras cómicas para diarios y revistas antes de publicar su primer libro en 1964 titulado La historia de Tucán. Es conocido principalmente por crear la serie de Elmer, el elefante multicolor, además de colaborar en animación con King Rollo Films y firmar obras bajo el seudónimo Violet Easton.
