STOKER BRAM
Stoker fue hijo de Abraham Stoker y Charlotte Mathilda Blake Thornley. Durante su infancia sufrió problemas de salud que lo mantuvieron postrado hasta los siete años, pero posteriormente destacó como estudiante y atleta en el Trinity College de Dublín, donde se graduó en matemáticas. Entre 1867 y 1877 trabajó como funcionario en Dublín y escribió críticas teatrales para The Evening Mail. En 1878 se trasladó a Londres y se convirtió en secretario y representante del actor Henry Irving en el Lyceum Theatre, cargo que desempeñó hasta 1902. Su producción literaria incluye novelas como La dama del sudario y La guarida del gusano blanco, aunque Drácula fue la obra que lo consagró dentro del género gótico. Su éxito y popularidad hasta nuestros días es tal, que Drácula es sinónimo de vampiro. Para crear este personaje, Stoker se basó en leyendas del folclore europeo y en la figura de Vlad Tepes, un príncipe de Valaquia que pasó a la historia con el terrorífico sobrenombre de El empalador.
