JoAnn Crandall es profesora emérita de Educación en la Universidad de Maryland, Baltimore County, donde fue codirectora del programa de maestría en TESOL y directora fundadora del programa de doctorado en Lengua, Alfabetización y Cultura. Antes de incorporarse a UMBC fue vicepresidenta del Center for Applied Linguistics y ha colaborado con docentes de idiomas en más de cuarenta países, ofreciendo desarrollo profesional tanto presencial como virtual. Ha sido presidenta de TESOL, de la Asociación Americana de Lingüística Aplicada y de Washington Area TESOL y es autora de más de cien artículos, libros y capítulos centrados en la enseñanza y el aprendizaje de segundas lenguas. Entre sus reconocimientos figuran el Premio James E. Alatis por servicio a TESOL, el Distinguished Scholarship and Service Award de AAAL y el Outstanding Graduate Faculty Award de UMBC.
