JOHN AGARD
John Agard is an acclaimed poet, playwright and author. He grew up in British Guiana now Guyana and says his love of words began with cricket commentary on the radio. His accolades include the Paul Hamlyn Award for Poetry, the Cholmondeley Award and the Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry. He now lives in East Sussex.

John Agard nació el 21 de junio de 1949 en la entonces Guayana Británica. Es poeta, dramaturgo y autor de literatura infantil. Creció en Georgetown y desde joven mostró interés por el lenguaje, influenciado por las transmisiones de cricket en la radio. Estudió inglés, francés y latín, y publicó sus primeros poemas en la adolescencia. Trabajó como profesor, bibliotecario y periodista en el Guyana Sunday Chronicle. Se trasladó al Reino Unido, donde desarrolló su carrera literaria. Ha recibido premios como el Casa de las Américas, el Cholmondeley y la Medalla de Oro de la Reina a la poesía.
