A STUDY IN SCARLET
On his return to London after serving in the Second Anglo-Afghan War as an assistant surgeon, Doctor Watson is looking for a place to live. He is introduced to a certain Mr Holmes, an eccentric, pipe-smoking gentleman who shows an interest in chemistry and is currently engaged in a test to detect human haemoglobin.
What begins as a simple house-sharing enquiry soon turns into a fully fledged "study in scarlet", a case of blood, murder and betrayal that will transport the reader from the streets of London to the early settlements of Salt Lake City in Utah

Arthur Conan Doyle 1859-1930 is the celebrated author of many adventure novels, including The Lost World and The Poison Belt, and the creator of the hugely popular detective stories of Sherlock Holmes.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle nació en Edimburgo el 22 de mayo de 1859 y murió en Crowborough el 7 de julio de 1930. Fue médico y escritor británico, célebre por crear al detective Sherlock Holmes. Estudió medicina en la Universidad de Edimburgo y ejerció como médico en Southsea entre 1882 y 1890. Publicó su primera novela, Estudio en escarlata, en 1887, iniciando una serie de relatos protagonizados por Holmes y el doctor Watson. También escribió novelas históricas, obras de teatro y ciencia ficción. Participó como médico en la guerra de los bóeres y defendió el espiritismo tras la muerte de su hijo en la Primera Guerra Mundial. Su legado literario sigue siendo influyente y ampliamente leído.
